The Volkswagen 02Z is a 5-speed manual transmission developed for transverse front-wheel-drive commercial vehicle applications. Based on the earlier 02J design, it incorporates a strengthened reverse gear and larger differential to handle up to approximately 250 Nm.

The 02Z is fitted primarily to Volkswagen Transporter T5/T6, Caravelle, Multivan and California applications with four-cylinder engines. Common Faults
Common 02Z problems include input/output shaft bearing wear, 5th-gear wear, synchroniser wear, differential wear and oil leaks. Symptoms can include gearbox whine or humming, difficult gear changes, excessive play and jumping out of gear.
