The PSA ML6 / ML6C is a 6-speed manual transmission developed for transverse front-wheel-drive applications. Designed for higher-torque petrol and diesel engines, it uses cable-operated gear selection, multi-cone synchronisers and a conventional differential, with standard versions rated to approximately 350 Nm.
Specification: 6-speed manual • PSA ML6 / ML6C • Transverse installation • Front-wheel drive • Cable-operated selection • Multi-cone synchronisers • Synchronised reverse • Four-satellite differential • Approximately 350 Nm standard torque capacity • 75W-80 oil on applicable versions.
The ML6 family is fitted across selected Peugeot, Citroën and PSA/Stellantis passenger and commercial vehicles. Ratios and components vary by application, so the VIN, complete gearbox code and individual component identification should always be confirmed before ordering replacement parts.
Common Faults
Common ML6 problems include bearing wear, synchroniser and selector wear, differential bearing problems, oil leaks and gear wear. Symptoms include gearbox whine or rumbling, difficult or crunching gear changes, jumping out of gear and excessive drivetrain noise.
Diagnosis should include oil level and condition, bearings, synchronisers, selector components and clutch operation before the gearbox is dismantled.
Common Fault Codes
The ML6 is a conventional manual transmission without a dedicated transmission ECU, so there are no meaningful ML6-specific OBD fault codes. Mechanical bearing, synchroniser, selector and gear failures will generally not generate diagnostic trouble codes.
