The Volkswagen 02B is a 5-speed manual transaxle primarily used in the VW Transporter T4 (1990–2003). Developed from the 02A transmission family, it uses a stronger final-drive arrangement and heavier-duty internal components to cope with the greater vehicle weight and load demands of the Transporter.

Common Faults & Diagnostic Symptoms
Unlike an electronically controlled automatic, DSG or CVT transmission, the 02B is a conventional manual gearbox and does not have a dedicated transmission control module or a standard set of gearbox-specific diagnostic trouble codes. Mechanical faults are therefore normally identified through symptoms, inspection and gearbox strip-down rather than transmission DTCs.
