U660E / U660F / U760E / U760F

The Toyota/Aisin U660E, U660F, U760E and U760F are 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transaxles used across a wide range of Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The U660 series was developed for higher-output applications, initially appearing with Toyota's 3.5-litre V6, while the related U760 series was designed for lower-torque four-cylinder applications. The “E” versions are front-wheel drive, while the “F” versions incorporate the additional drive arrangement required for AWD applications.

Specification: 6-speed automatic • Toyota/Aisin U-series • U660E/U660F/U760E/U760F • Electronically controlled hydraulic transmission • Torque converter with lock-up clutch • Multiple wet clutch and brake elements • Integrated differential • U660E/U760E front-wheel drive • U660F/U760F all-wheel drive • Toyota WS specification ATF • Electronic solenoid-controlled valve body • Multiple gear-ratio and final-drive configurations depending on application.

Commonly fitted to selected Toyota Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Venza and Sienna, together with various Lexus ES and RX applications. The U660 family is principally associated with higher-torque/V6 applications, while U760 variants are commonly found behind 2.4, 2.5 and 2.7-litre four-cylinder engines. Internal components, valve bodies, solenoids, torque converters and AWD/FWD components differ between versions, so the vehicle VIN and complete transmission identification should always be confirmed before ordering replacement parts.

Common Faults

Common problems associated with the U660/U760 family include valve-body wear, pressure-regulator valve wear, solenoid performance faults, torque-converter clutch problems, delayed or harsh engagement, flare shifts and internal clutch failure. Documented valve-body problems can produce low line pressure, clutch slippage, burnt clutches, delayed reverse, harsh reverse engagement, 1–2 or 4–5/5–6 shift flare and TCC slip or shudder. ATRA specifically documents worn solenoid-modulator valve bores causing erratic shifting, solenoid performance codes and abnormal torque-converter clutch operation on this transmission family.
