The Renault PF6 is a heavy-duty 6-speed manual transmission developed for transverse front-wheel-drive light-commercial applications. Closely related to the earlier PK6 family, it uses a three-shaft design with an integrated differential and is designed for the higher loads associated with vans and commercial vehicles.

Common Faults
Common PF6 problems include shaft-bearing failure, synchroniser and gear wear, differential damage and 5th/6th-gear wear. Typical symptoms include humming or whining while driving, pronounced 6th-gear whine, difficult 2nd/3rd/4th selection, crunching and eventual loss of drive if bearing failure becomes severe.
Diagnosis should include oil level and condition, shaft bearings, gear teeth, synchronisers, differential, selector components and clutch operation before the gearbox is dismantled.
