The Ford 6R60, 6R75 and 6R80 are a family of 6-speed automatic transmissions developed from the ZF 6HP architecture for longitudinal rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive applications. They use a torque converter with lock-up clutch, planetary gearing and electronically controlled hydraulic operation.
Specification: 6-speed automatic • Ford 6R60 / 6R75 / 6R80 • ZF 6HP-derived design • Longitudinal installation • RWD / 4WD • Torque converter with lock-up clutch • Electronic-hydraulic control • Planetary gearsets • Integrated mechatronic/valve-body control • Application-specific torque capacities and calibrations.
The 6R60, 6R75 and 6R80 are used across selected Ford, Lincoln and Mercury applications, including Explorer, Expedition, F-150, Mustang, Navigator and Mountaineer. Individual versions and production generations are not necessarily interchangeable, so the VIN, complete transmission number, OEM gearbox code and individual component identification should always be confirmed before ordering replacement parts.
Common Faults
Common problems include harsh or delayed shifting, valve-body wear, hydraulic pressure loss, solenoid faults, torque-converter clutch problems and internal clutch wear. Symptoms can include delayed engagement, flare shifts, harsh shifts, overheating and transmission warning messages.
Diagnosis should include fault codes, fluid condition, adaptations, solenoid operation, valve-body condition, hydraulic pressure and torque-converter performance before replacing internal components.
